Publication - Much Ado About Nothing

In terms of the photo book, what inspired me to create it, is The Grand Theatre, more specifically, the staff smoking area of the building. Walking around the area I have noticed that it is kept as clean as possible, being a historical part of the city. The things that captured my attention were the small objects, the macro worlds. I started by photographing cigarette ends, theatre tickets, parking tickets, masks and plastic litter on the floor. Some of the objects I’ve collected them in small glass capsules to photograph in the studio. The Baskerville typeface was selected for the book due to its ability to enhance the contrast between thick and thin strokes, reduce the angle of the serifs, maintain a vertical stress, and improve the uniformity of form through the use of rounded characters. By manipulating the composition of the front cover, the title has been inverted and reflected to create a mirrored effect. This technique has resulted in a shape that bears a resemblance to the Theatre building. For this project, I’ve also learned how to do Imposition in Adobe InDesign and print it while keeping high quality, binding, and cutting it for a clean result.
